Bullying ~ We Must Keep Open Dialogue
Page 70 of 366. Good Morning everyone. I hope the time change doesn't screw your day up too much. To me, it doesn't make a difference what the time is, or even the date for that matter... I wanted to write about a subject that is extremely relevant in this day and age... although, it should have already been relevant when we were back in school....
BULLYING!!!
I am writing about it today as I was listening to a story about bullying and it really got my attention. Long story short, a boy had been snapping a girl's bra strap and after she repeatedly told him to stop... even going to her teacher, who told her to "just ignore it". The boy did it again, and she turned around and punched him twice in the face. The parents were called in, and it was the girl who was chastised by the school, teacher and principal...
Thankfully the girl's mother wasn't having any of it; and suggested that the boy should be charged with sexual assault... as she was only defending herself after she did all the appropiate things first, before she struck him. I had to pause for a moment because I am not sure I would have acted as civil as this mother did.
I am going to touch on another few bullying cases that are near and dear. One happened when one of my children were in school; it actually was one of her friends. I am not mentioning names, but they were only in their third week of school when this child was bullied so much; they killed themself... absolutely NO ONE faced consequences for it.
More recently, at the very same school, a child was murdered. You cannot say it any other way. The assaillants WERE charged in this case, but what bothers me here is they were charged as minors. WHY??? They committed murder, not manslaughter, nor was it in self-defense... The assailant is already finished their time and I believe they were released this past week... what happened to "a life for a lie". How is a couple years in jail equal taking a child's life??? Make this make sense!!! This is how screwed up our judicial system is. My heart breaks for the victim's mother (again, I am not mentioning names out of respect for the victim's loved ones).
Let's face it... Bullying has always been a thing and will always be a thing; but there are measures that can be taken that society seems to fail BIG time!!! We supposedly have a zero tolerance policy in schools when it comes to bullying; all I am seeing is them turning a blind eye to most of it, blaming the victim more often than not. I know people who I went to school with, that were bullied and here we are almost 45 years later, and it still haunts them... it's embedded in their brain, they have PTSD and struggle daily to see the worth in themselves. So tell me what would be an appropriate punishment for someone causing another a life full of hardships, and misery???I will say, my kids are grown adults now and parents to their own; but let me tell you, they were taught to never strike someone first, but if someone does lay their hands on them, all bets are off!!! And if they don't feel comfortable doing that, come to me and I will deal with it... I am ol school. If your kid lays hands on my kid and you don't deal with it, as their parent; then straight facts are... I am coming after you, the parents.
In today's society though, things are progressively worse. Having the internet is a blessing and a curse; but now we have cyber bullying on top of face to face. The sad thing about this is police or whatever authority figure there is around, will openly tell you that they cannot prove who the "keyboard warrior" is; therefore nothing really happens. It's disgusting and we need to do better, not just for our children but for generations to come.
Sorry, I know this was a long read, but this one is very personal for me. Have a great day lovies.
Blessed Be
~Phoenix
