Where is the Humanity???
I'm going to give readers a fair warning on this one, because I might get a lil explosive here. I am going to discuss a facebook thread that I read yesterday that absolutely disgusted me.
I am writing this in true hope that there are at least some people who still have hearts, compassion and empathy in them; for if they don't.... our world is far more doomed than I ever thought.
As you know, I do not name names, this entry will be the same; but I admit, it is taking everything in me to not spew this person's name to everyone.
Here's the situation....
We all know that our countries are in distress and people are being forced out of their homes and into tent encampments; they are spread all over Ontario (I can only comment on Ontario as that is my home province)... You would think that people who still have their homes, jobs and rooves over their heads would be grateful and empathize with the unfortunate... NOPE!!!
I am going to post some of the comments on this feed; just to show how unbelievably ignorant, disgusting and flat out assholes people can be...
"...They are ruining our north and green spaces and the eco-systems there. The local government needs to take action ASAP before they ruin what precious green space we have left."
"8 billion people in the world - I think we can lose a few." "...Some of these people have their own families who don't care about them, why should we?"
"Citizens should just go to war" This was in response to people talking about how the "unhoused" are all thieves, addicts, alcoholics and MANY people feel the once in encampments are stealing stuff because they believe it is their right... Someone make this make sense.
It continues with someone suggesting the solution to the "encampments" is mass slaughter... hunt down people with severe addictions and mental illnesses. Once again the same person who talks about the 8 billion people says, "Oh Stop! There's too many people in thie world anyways, we could trim some fat. Quality over quantity. I've got humanity when it comes to real humans, not useless zombies."
Needless to say, this was a HUGE discussion, a few things really bothered me.
Not all the homeless are addicts or alcoholics; they were forced onto the streets because of the government. They have caused rents and mortgages to be sky high, it's impossible to get a place anymore.
Others are there because they have mental health issues, but cannot get the medication they need... thanks again to the government who has shut down many, many mental health facilities and reallocated that money to foreign countries and supporting things that have nothing to do with our own citizens.
Yes there are addicts and alcoholics there, we all know that; but instead of bashing them, have you ever taken a walk and brought one or two a coffee or cold drink, sat down and have a real conversation with them? You'd be amazed at what you can learn when you listen with your ears, instead of your mouth. Sit, observe, and listen....
Everyone walks around ridiculing addicts, but again, have you ever sat down with one to hear their story? You'd be surprised how many people didn't choose to take drugs the first time. You'd be shocked at how quickly a drug can become an addiction, especially if they are using it for an escape.
I am sooooo tired of hearing, or seeing people make fun of the down trodden... Truth be told, there are man, many, many people who are literally a paycheck away from being in one of those encampments themselves; so if I were them, I wouldn't be trying to look down from the donkey they're riding on.
You can say what you want to say, but I have lived a wealthy life. I have lived a street life. Today I just simply live. So I CAN speak from experience. I have deep empathy for the "unhoused" (The PC word for homeless). Our world is in crisis mode and those who are governing our countries are failing miserably.
Sorry, that's all I got for today. My heart breaks for everyone who is struggling right now... whether it is financial, mental, physical, emotional, etc. I am sending out all the positivity I can into the universe and hope that there are better days ahead for everyone. Stay safe!!!
