Probably Strange Coming From a Woman... BUT I'm Saying it Anyways
Hey y'all. Greetings and salutations... As you can guess from the title, this is probably going to come off as a very weird ass subject for a woman to bring up; but I DO feel the need that things like these need to be discussed and the narrative on this topic need to be brought to the foreground and acknowledged for what they are.
Fuck it... I am just going to dive into it... (Please remember this is coming from my own personal perspective as what I have witnessed and been through as a woman whose closed friends are men).
I want to talk about the "MAN UP" statement and mentality that has been around for centuries and how much damage those words have caused people (specifically men), and all their loved ones. I have watched as people have either drank themselves to death or overdosed because they felt they were not man enough for this world; and I am going to say... there is no such thing and the narrative on this horse shit needs to change.
The thing that absolutely blows my mind is that it isn't just a generational thing... this isn't just something that is passed down from a father to a son to a grandson, etc; I hear this from WOMEN!!!
AS A WOMAN, I AM GOING TO PUT Y'ALL ON BLAST; AND FRANKLY, IDGAF IF YOU AGREE OR NOT!!!
I am flat out saying it... why has it been since the beginning of time that women can express their feelings, they can cry, they can have their outbursts, they can rage, they can have mental health issues/depression/anxiety/panic attacks, etc; but it is not okay for men to have the same feelings... Sorry, let me correct that sentence... they can have the same feelings, but they mustn't share it with anyone otherwise they look weak or will be ridiculed by the masses.
Fuck that noise... you need to get something off your chest, share it!!! Please don't ever feel you need to hide it, and if you are with someone who makes you feel that way... you're with the wrong person!!!
WHAT A BIZARRE WAY OF THINKING!!!
I am here to say that men are humans and have all the same emotions as women; what makes it wrong for them to express them, or even feel them??? Where in the manual of life does it say that?? Don't worry... I will sit here and wait for you to produce this evidence. YOU CAN'T!!!
Yes, it may feel like I am being pretty aggressive about this topic, and I am; although, I much prefer to say I am extremely passionate about it. Why do men have to suffer in silence? Why is the weight of the world supposed to rest on their shoulders?? Just because they CAN carry it, doesn't mean they SHOULD.
I am very grateful that society has slightly opened the door (more like the door is ajar) when it comes to this topic; and we have a billion miles to go before mental health will be fully acknowledged and no made fun of... if it ever happens!!! Before I end this blurb, there is something pretty vital I want to add here, but before I do I need to label this part with a TRIGGER WARNING... I want to talk about sexual abuse, sexual assault/molestation and flat out rape (yes, I am going there!!!).
I understand and see how people are blown away about how things are being "exposed" in the media about certain celebrities and their involvement in rapes, sex trafficking among several other heinous acts. My question to everyone is WHY ARE YOU SHOCKED??? People (women have been in the news for years about it... think about the #metoo movement) have been talking about it for decades; but NO ONE wanted to listen. I can give you a prime example...
COREY HAIM. (Dec 23, 1971 - Mar 10, 2010) ALAN RITCHSON. COREY FELDMAN. TERRY CREWS. JAMES VANDERBEEK. ANTHONY RAPP. MICHAEL GASTON. BRENDAN FRASER. ALEXANDER POLINSKY. (More recently)... JUSTIN BIEBER. LIL ROD.
I guess what I am trying to get across is this... men/boys are just as susceptible to not just having all the mental health disorders that women have; they too, can and have been molested, raped and sex trafficked. It's truly a sad time, when it is only now that people are starting to admit that a. they knew about it. b. they were victims (the numbers are in the hundreds with one main person currently). c. that this truly does happen to men, and it's society's fault that they kept their mouths shut; or why they committed suicide.
(or murdered)... No one is going to change my mind about Chris Cornell and Chester Bennington's deaths. No matter how hard the authorities and Hollywood has tried to cover this up. The two were working on a now abandoned documentary called "The Silent Children". Both supposedly committed suicide 64 days apart... c'mon!!!
At the end of it all, I need to add one more thing... If you have not watched "QUIET ON THE SET: THE DARK SIDE OF KIDS TV" a documentary that is on Prime Video; give it a watch. I cannot comment on what I really think about the parents throughout the whole documentary because I feel pretty much all of them should be in prison too; but the facts are this... the children were pawns, they were exploited by their parents for money, resulting in inappropriate relations between minors and adults.
The biggest thing that blows my mind on this scenario is this... several of the producers or as I call them TPIC (the people in charge) like Dan Schneider, Brian Peck and Jason Michael Handy (who admitted to being a full-blown pedophile) all had to face some sort of consequence... to me, this is too late. Parents, adults, people on the production crews who KNEW something was wrong, should have spoken up!!!
You want to know what the most sickening part to me is... after Drake Bell, who was 15 years old when Brian Richard Peck had repeatedly sexual assaulted him, came forward and Richard Peck was convicted as a sex offender, he only got 16 months in prison... the sickest part is this... after all that... DISNEY HIRED HIM!!! (Albeit he was doing voiceovers for episodes of the TV show starring Dylan and Cole Sprouse... but he should have never been hired by any company that has anything to do with children.
I guess at the end of the day, these tragedies and atrocities that are all over the media right now should only convince the world/society as a whole to open their ears and listen to when people talk; don't shame someone because they are a woman or a man (especially a man); because if they are entrusting you with something so deep... your ear may be the last resource they have!!! We need to have each other's backs... we need to change the narrative. Men are human, and they need to be treated as such.
Sorry for the long ass rant, but it needed to be said.
