A Remembrance Day Staple...

I know, I am probably overwhelming my readers with my blurbs about Remembrance Day; but between all of the history we have studied and with all that is happening around us... It feels like it is urgent that everyone remembers who we are; what our country stands for, and most of all... THE BLOOD, SWEAT, AND TEARS THAT GAVE US THIS BEAUTIFUL, FREE COUNTRY!!!

(Yes, although we are in very difficult times, we are still FREE!)

Erasing history by changing names of streets and buildings, or tearing down statues is NOT what this world needs... we need to keep those around as reminds of what happened and for history to not repeat itself.

We cannot rewrite history, we cannot change the narrative to suit whatever agenda that is convenient at the time... FACTS ARE FACTS!!!

With all that being said... I would like to post something, that as a child and young adult, a poem we recited every year, to commemorate the fallen... to remember them, to thank them, to recognize the sacrifices made for us to be where we were (and still are)... FREE!!! I am going to end this blurb with the poem...

In Flanders Fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.
We are the Dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved and were loved, and now we lie
In Flanders fields.
Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders fields.

In Flanders Fields was written in World War I, on the field of battle in 1915 by Lieutenant Colonel John McCrae, MD, Canadian Army (1872-1918).
