Nothing Else Matters Right Now...
Page 316 of 366. Good Afternoon my Lovies. Today, on the 11th day of the 11th month... at the 11th hour, us Canadians spent two minutes in silence remembering those who have lost their lives. Church bells ring and we hear the bugle sounding "Last Post and Reveille (Rouse)".
It draws the symbolic association between the soldier's last duty of sitting sentry (death) and his rising above his mortal duties (reveille).
Those who have selflessly given their lives to ensure that their loved ones, in their generation and generations to follow would have the freedoms, all people deserve.
TODAY WE HONOUR THEM!!!
Men, women, animals, and dare I say children even; because even though at 18 years of age, someone is considered to be an adult; to me that is still a child, who had a whole life to live.
I know we all have someone who we are personally connected to, one way or another, who was/is a veteran or someone currently serving out military. This honour and respect also goes out to them. I think of my parents (adopted) who witnessed the atrocities that happened in The Netherlands, even my Opa being taken by the Nazis.
I learned from my (biological) sister that our paternal grandfather served in World War II, surviving D-Day and bringing here to Canada who would be his wife, and our grandmother.
He proudly served for his Majesty King George VI with all the proud military men and women of Scotland. I unfortunately never got to know him, nor got to hear about his "war stories"; but I deeply am grateful and proud of him and all the men who fought. (I thank my sister for sharing this knowledge as well. It swells my heart to know that the warrior blood is definitely running through our veins)!!!
I, like many others, are eternally grateful for the freedoms we received. I feel some days that we forget, the land we stand on is literally built on the blood you left there (figuratively, of course). I will with every fiber of my being that somehow, somewhere, people will rise up and remember your very sacrifices and see that we too, may have to do the very same thing to maintain what you fought so hard to give us.
I have to leave you with that thought, because this is not the time... nor the post to do it in.
LEST WE FORGET!!!
~Phoenix
