Another Trip Around the Sun

Good Morning Lovies. I apologize that I have missed a few pages already... life tends to do that sometimes.

I've been having a bit of a time with it lately. I'm not in the greatest health these days; a lot of time is being spent in bed, or at my sister's to ensure I don't do any "funky chickens" or "weeble wobbles", as we like to call them...

Sometimes I like to refer to them as "freebies"... THOSE happen A LOT!!!

This entry isn't going to be a long one. It's more of a dedication to my dad.

I wanted to wish my dad a Happy 86th Birthday. It is absolutely crazy to think he is on his 87th trip around the sun. To sit back and really think of all the things he has endured and survived as a child, to build the life, and business empire he created here in Canada. To still thinking he is and always will be my "hero" for all the health issues he has survived; including his third fight with cancer (which he JUST found out recently). We've had our ups and downs, but it was usually another who caused those rifts.

I sat back yesterday, really counting how many people there are in our family. There's my parents, us 4 kids (adopted)... all have partners. My sister has 6 kids, some have partners, and 1 grandbaby. My oldest brother and his wife, they have 3 kids, 2 have partners and 2 grandbabies. My younger older brother and his wife have two kids and they have partners, and 1 grandbaby. I have my "partner", my two kids and my 3 grandbabies.

Our family has 38 people right now... HOLY SHITBALLS!!!

There was a questioned poised towards me yesterday by my mother. I knew she wouldn't really like my response, because the answers really only involved my dad. I was asked this...

"If there is anything in your life, what are your fondest memories growing up?"

I didn't even need a second to answer that. It was our camping trips up to Killarney Wilderness Park (It's now a Provincial Park). The canoeing in George Lake. The cliff-diving. The portaging and of course, the fishing. There was nothing like laying on the rocks, watching the Northern Lights; which generally came after an evening of listening to the sounds of loons, wolves and coyotes howling. The trips to the dump and watching the Black Bears... and my dad being the crazy ass who'd always get out of the truck to get as close as he could to them.

There is nothing like it!!!

We went on a lot of camping trips, Algonquin Park, BonEcho, Killbear, Grundy Lake... Camping was our "jam", so to speak. I mean REAL camping, tent pitched, sleeping on the ground, everything cooked on the fire. Bathe in the lake. (I'll never forget the time we had a bear at our campsite LOL).

My other fondest memories involved going ice fishing with my dad. Back in the day, we didn't have the luxury of the huts they have now. Nah, we sat on a log on the ice, and fished the day away; he's also the one who made me fearless. I fell in one year, as a child, but that did NOT deter me from going again and again!!!

There was just something special about hanging out with my dad, doing something we both loved. He is the reason I am soooo passionate about fishing, summer, winter... I don't care... Just fishing!!!

I am now rambling; but those were definitely the highlight of my childhood. Memories that will forever be etched in my mind, even moreso than spending June to September living on the boat; only time seeing land was to fuel up and shower at some marina along our travels.

Happy Bday Dad! I hope it's a great one!!!
