Do You Even Know???
Good Morning Lovies. I hope you're all have a fantastic Thor's Day. Today's blurb is going to be a controversial one; and I am probably going to end up writing all THREE sides of the story, so bear with me as I sort out my thoughts on paper...
This morning, on socia media, the police services of a city, about an hour away from mine, had released a statement.
"Shortly before 1:30pm yesterday afternoon, a citizen called the police after locating a newborn baby left on the porch of a residence in the area of sterling Street and Oxford Street East. The baby was transported to hospital by paramedica services, where it remains in good condition..."
Officers are concerned for the welfare of the baby's mother and are seeking the public's assistance in identifying and locating her.
Now... I am not going to write out comments but I am going to voice what I feel and how some others were expressing...
Many, many people, and I found this disturbing, were quick to jump on the bandwagon and blame the mother; saying she is a horrible person. One person even stating that this was a "disgusting act by anyone, let alone the mother!" Are you for real dude???
For one, no one knows the circumstances on why this woman carried her baby in her belly, and under her heart, for NINE months and felt her only option was to give the baby up.
Two, do we even know for sure that it was the mother who placed the baby on the porch??? I know, the police are looking for footage to see if they can spot the person; but after watching many, many crime shows... there are endless possibilities!!! The baby could have been the result of rape. (For all we know, the mother could be young, and brought up in a a situation that doesn't permit her to have an abortion).
Three, it is possible that the mother is not even alive and this baby was taken from her. Even thinking that way, the babe could have been taken from its nursery and dropped off by anyone.
Until we know the whole story, I think people should focus on finding the mother and making sure she is okay. I don't think there is anything criminally wrong with what happened yesterday afternoon. Unlike other provinces, and the United States, we do NOT have safe havens, or "Baby Boxes" or "Angel Cradles"... where if you deliver a baby, you can surrender the child within 48 hours, without question.
While these are fantastic for the children, who may have been dealt a much harsher fate... it doesn't cure the trauma they will endure growing up!!! I say that as an adoptee, both the parental units and the child who is given up, will forever wonder WHY and WHAT HAPPENED. (Sorry, this is the Devil's Advocate in me).
At the end of the day, I hope that the mother is found safe and sound. I do NOT think she should face any criminal charges for her actions... if she is the one who dropped the baby off.
There are sooooo many stories out there where the child met a much different fate by being dumped in a dumpster, or tossed away like yesterday's garbage. This wee one was obviously placed at this porch with care, knowing someone would find it. I truly hope the babe grows up to have a great and fulfilling life. I also hope the mother finds peace, and heals from whatever she is going through.
(I have learned that we have ONE location in Ontario, Canada called "Parker's Project", but that is definitely not enough).
